BATA announces Chair Rotation.

New Chair appointed as Rick Bell, Executive Vice President and GM, Texthelp, steps down from the role after five years in post.

2nd October 2024

Former BATA Director, Jack Churchill has, this month, stepped into the role of Chair to continue advancing the organisation’s mission of uniting voices for AT progress.

After five years of dedicated service, Rick Bell has stepped down as Chair of the British Assistive Technology Association (BATA). During his time in post, Rick spearheaded a number of initiatives, including the growth and development of BATA’s Special Interest Groups, which have become vital in advancing conversations on AT and accessibility, and strengthening collaborations between BATA’s members and international organisations operating in the AT industry.

Rick also led on the appointment of BATA’s CEO, Katherine Perry, who has been instrumental in driving change and guiding the executive team’s strategy for 2024 and beyond.

“It has been an honour to lead BATA, especially during our period of transformation over the past two years. I’m confident that Jack will bring fresh perspectives and energy to our work, and I look forward to watching what BATA achieves in the coming year.”

Rick Bell, former BATA Chairman.

Jack brings his many years of experience as CEO of Scanning Pens to the role of Chair and a deep understanding of the UK AT sector, in fact he was recently honoured for his contribution with an OBE. Previously serving on BATA’s Board as Director, he understands the importance of connections in the industry and the role the UK can play on the global stage. Jack is committed to helping more people get access to the assistive technology they need for a more equitable, inclusive life.

“BATA has grown so much since its inception and continues its mission of ensuring that disabled adults and children get access to Assistive Technology and accompanying services. The organisation will progress our important work of building out BATA to be a driver for change and raising awareness of AT."
