University of Dundee

AT and AAC Computing, and the Educational Assistive Technology programme.

About University of Dundee

Computing at the University of Dundee is well established in Accessibility, Assistive Technology (AT) and AAC (Augmentative and Alternative Communication) teaching and research. Computing at Dundee is unique thanks to the user centre, which creates a space for user centre group members to ensure they can have a direct impact on teaching, research and implementation of AT.

  • Professor Annalu Waller leads the research group.

  • Rohan Slaughter is the programme lead for the MSc EduAT (Educational Assistive Technology). Rohan joined the University in late 2020 to develop and deliver the MSc EduAT, which welcomed it’s fourth cohort of students in 2024.

  • Annalu and Rohan were joined by Tom Griffiths in January 2023. Tom brings a wealth of clinical science expertise from working in two NHS specialist AAC services and has published AT research including on using eye-gaze technologies as an access method.

The MSc EduAT aims to professionalise the role of the educational assistive technologist by providing a Master of Science degree that supports practitioners from an educational, technological, or therapeutic background to develop the skills, knowledge and understanding required to undertake the assessment, provisioning, ongoing support, and review of assistive technology in education, third sector and social care organisations.
